Here will give you our opinion on enameled cast iron cookware. We will start by saying there are many different types of enameled cast iron on the market today. So are high quality and some are not. We would suggest sticking to a brand name like Lodge Cast Iron.
The lodge name has been around for many years and manufactures a full line of cast-iron cookware and reasonable prices..
Now to get back on the topic of the pros and cons of enameled cast iron cookware.
Pros
- There is no seasoning required to use the type of cast iron.
- It has no stick properties with a little oil or butter.
- Heat retention is superior to any other cooking pot.
- Can be used with these heat sources on all cooktops, in the oven, and on the grill.
Cons
- They are extremely heavy because they are made of cast iron.
- Thermal conductivity is lower than that of seasoned cast iron, resulting in a long time to reach operating temperature.
- The enamel coating that lines the interior of the cabinet can chip, resulting in a damaged smooth surface. When I make it, I don’t use any metal spoons or turners. Additionally, the exterior enamel paint may chip, though I believe the internal enamel paint is more susceptible to chipping.
Conclusion
Enameled cast irons are durable and easy to clean. But there are some downsides too.
