How to prepare a cast iron skillet
There are many ways to prepare a cast iron skillet for use including in the oven, on your stove top, outside on your propane grill and even over a open fire. We believe there is only one way to properly do it and we have listed the steps down below. The important step is #4 and having the right temperature for whatever seasoning you are using.
Temperatures used for seasoning depend on the seasoning you are using. The range of temperatures is as low as 250 degrees and high as 500 degrees but it will depend on the type of seasoning you are using. Getting the temperature is one of the most important steps to the seasoning process in our opinion.
Using the right temperatures for whatever seasoning you are using is the difference between building a strong polymerized cooking surface or you having issues with flaky , sticky seasoning to leave you with little or no protection.
